It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 years since Bobby Boucher led the South Central Louisiana State University Mud Dogs to an improbable 30-27 Bourbon Bowl victory against the Louisiana Cougars.  Well, at least that’s what happened in the 1998 film The Waterboy, starring Adam Sandler, Henry Winkler and Kathy Bates.  To commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the cult-classic film, adidas is releasing a limited-edition Bobby Boucher SCLSU jersey, like the one worn in the film.

If you’re a little hazy on the plot of the film, Sandler plays a man in his early 30s who was sheltered by his Momma from the world around him but his passion for water helps him land a waterboy job with SCLSU.  But water becomes secondary when the coach realizes Sandler’s character is a one-man wrecking crew on the gridiron. From there, he takes a dreadful team and helps turn the group of misfits into a championship-winning team.

The film was another in a string of 1990s success for Sandler, grossing more than $161 million in the United States and leaving an impression on popular culture, with catchphrases like “YOU CAN DO IT!” and “WATERBOYYYYYYY!” among others. Some might even argue it was his last hilarious film, though we think that award goes to Big Daddy.

Either way, now you can cheer on one of your favorite fictional football teams whenever you want.  Complete with Bourbon Bowl patch, the jersey features the orange and blue color scheme with the No. 9 and Boucher’s name across the back.  Adidas has a few other accessories to accompany the jersey, like Coach Klein’s varsity jacket, which retails for $100, an SCLSU hat, which retails for $30, and SCLSU water bottles, which retail for $20.

The Boucher jersey can be purchased through adidas’ website for $120.  You better get them quick, because it doesn’t seem like they will be around long – not to mention, we expect to see quite a few of them a college football games this upcoming bowl season.

The question now is, can we expect adidas to put out some limited-edition Shane Falco Washington Sentinels jerseys in two years to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of The Replacements?  Because, you can bet, we would pre-order those right this very second.
