With everyone still stuck inside, we knew it would only be a matter of time before more breweries made their beer available as homebrew kits. BrewDog and Stone Brewing Company have long collaborated with homebrewing companies to provide drinkers with the opportunity to recreate their flagship beers and now one of Florida’s most recognizable craft beer producers, Funky Buddha Brewery, is offering up their low-calorie IPA recipe to make from the comfort of your home.
Chant IPA is one of Funky Buddha’s newest core beers, so new it’s a ghost on BeerAdvocate, and to help spread the word on this beer and keep drinkers occupied during quarantine, the company has joined forces with Craft A Brew to create an all-in-one beer making kit. Chant IPA is a 4.2 percent ABV low calorie, sessionable, IPA that’s brewed with Mosaic and Citra hops to channel what the brewery describes as “intense notes of peach, mango, and citrus.” And with just 99 calories and four carbs, you won’t feel bad if you just drink it while laying on the couch. Each kit includes detailed instructions, reusable equipment, Citra and Mosaic hops, specialty malts, yeast and other ingredients to brew and ferment one or five gallons of the tropical IPA at home.
If you already have the equipment, don’t worry – there’s also ingredient-only kits. The marriage between these two companies seems perfect, since Craft A Brew is based in Orlando and Funky Buddha resides just north of Miami. It’s not the first time Craft A Brew has teamed up with a brewery, as it also currently features recipe kits from both California-based Stone Brewing and Brooklyn’s Sixpoint Brewery.
“As many tap rooms have closed their doors to the public in order to combat COVID-19, craft beer lovers find themselves missing the brewery experience,” said Kyle Westfall, Founder and President of Craft a Brew. “We’re thrilled to help folks turn their own kitchens into Funky Buddha satellite breweries and embark on a new hobby as we all adapt to spending much more time at home.”
Funky Buddha is much more than just low-calorie efforts too. The brewery, which started back in 2013, really made a name for itself at the 2016 World Beer Cup when their Maple Bacon Coffee Porter took home gold in the Specialty Beer category. It proved that they had the chops to make next-level beers – and now you can give it a try.
If you’re not much of a homebrewer, you can find 12-ounce six-packs of Chant IPA throughout much of the southeastern United States, as far north as Washington D.C., but just remember, if you can’t find it, you can still make your own. Craft A Brew’s complete one gallon Chanted IPA beer kits are $48 and the one gallon and five gallon kits, which only include ingredients are $18 and $45. It’s expected to ship by the end of May.
