With much of the world at home trying to figure out what the future will bring after the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s led to a heaping nostalgia-fueled focus on the past, the biggest of which might be the recent trend of reunions. Lately, some Hollywood’s most recognizable faces have met up virtually to reconnect and discuss their role in films that have since become ingrained in popular culture.
We’ve already seen The Wonders from That Thing You Do and the cast of High School Musical both reunited to give fans an update and sing a song or two but Josh Gad dropped a nostalgic bombshell on YouTube this week when he launched his new series, Reunited Apart. Gad was able to get every notable cast member of the 1985 film The Goonies together to talk about what they’ve been up to lately, give some behind the scenes information and even perform some of the most quotable lines in Hollywood history – well, at least to anyone of that specific generation who wore out the original VHS.
Not only were each of the Goonies present – Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan – for the conversation but Gad also got the film’s Fratelli brothers, played by Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano, as well as writer Chris Columbus, director Richard Donner, singer Cyndi Lauper and producer Steven Spielberg. The entire point of the video was to help raise donations for The Center for Disaster Philanthropy, which focuses on helping donors make more thoughtful disaster-related giving decisions. Gad and his guests even took a minute near the end to sincerely thank the people currently fighting on the frontlines. Within just two hours of posting the first episode, the actor, best known as Olaf in Disney’s Frozen franchise, had already helped raise close to $9,000 from the nearly 18,000 viewers.
During the almost 20-minute conversation, Gad and The Goonies cast talked about celebrities visiting the set during filming, a potential for a sequel and how Oregon originally was Ohio. The cast also explained how hard it was for actor John Matuszak to eat while in his Sloth makeup and gave their best impression of the ionic character and sung Lauper’s theme song together. If you grew up loving this film, you’ll really want to check out the first episode of Reunited Apart. Oh, and Gad does the truffle shuffle.

Who knows what cast Gad might reunite next but we’re hoping it’s the entire cast from Back To The Future because they’ve probably got some great stories and impersonations to share. There’s no word yet on when the next episode will drop.
