More than a year ago, I was enjoying the magnificence of Zion National Park in southwestern Utah when the opportunity to ride a Polaris RZR in the desert arose.  With little hesitation, I hopped into the off-road side-by-side and immediately embraced the speed and exhilaration of the vehicle.  Its capabilities were quite impressive, its ride was very smooth and, most importantly, it was a lot of fun.  But just when it seemed about as good as it gets, the folks at Polaris are releasing the most badass RZR model yet.

This week, the Minnesota-based company announced the RZR XP Turbo S – a 72-inch behemoth of an off-road vehicle that Polaris declares is the most capable version it’s ever created.  The RZR XP Turbo S was completely redesigned from top to bottom – for starters, it’s the first-ever side-by-side vehicle to come stock with 32-inch tires.  These tires are 249 percent more resistant to punctures than the competition, while also providing an industry best 16 inches of ground clearance.  These two features allow for an agile vehicle, one that conquers the toughest terrain as though it was a trophy truck.

“We set out to create the most capable and aggressive side-by-side in the industry, and without a doubt, we accomplished that with the RZR XP Turbo S,” said Polaris Off-Road Vehicles president Chris Musso, in a statement.  “This machine raises the bar for the industry.  The sheer size of the machine and its significant performance upgrades will have even the most passive drivers attacking terrain with confidence.”

The chassis is better reinforced, the axles are stronger and Polaris even upgraded some of the performance characteristics – increasing the assist in power steering by nearly 25 percent, along with a recalibrated throttle mapping and redesigned clutch box, allowing for better air flow inside the vehicle.  And while performance is certainly the top priority, Polaris also made sure to feature the best cockpit to date, complete with a four-point harness, LED lighting and a seven-inch Ride Command display.

It comes in two colors – red and blue – and will be available at dealerships sometime in the middle of March, with a base price of just under $25,000 – a little expensive if you’re just looking for some fun.  If the RZR XP Turbo S will be used from work, we could definitely see you getting your money’s worth.  Believe me, this is definitely on my wish list and perfect no matter where you live.  It’s fun, it’s practical, it’s whatever you want it to be – and it’s perhaps the most badass off-road vehicle out there.
